PHOTOS FROM JFK

 

This is a photo of the Loftleidir crew that flew the first scheduled flight to the USA. The photo was taken at the then Idlewild Airport, now JFK Int'l. Airport on August 16, 1948 by the New York Mayor's office. We celebrated 50 years of scheduled service in 1998.

From left to right:

Halldor (Tiny) Gudmundsson (Flight Engineer) who became Director of Maintenance and Engineering.

Alfred Eliasson (Captain) who became President of Loftleidir Icelandic.

Photo taken 15MAY1970 on the occasion of the first Icelandic-Loftleidir pure turbine flight. Icelandair-Flugfelag Islands had jumped the gun with a B727-100 intro a few years earlier, but the companies hadn't merged at the time the picture was taken.

A DC-8-63 was leased from Seaboard World Airlines, put in LL livery and brought to the East Wing of the International Arrivals Building and was awaiting boarding for departure when the following assembled:
